Basic fares within Harlow

A single adult fare based on Network Harlow fares will cost typically £1.80 within Harlow. There are variations, many lower, and during the evenings and on Sundays fares are generally different. Tickets may be bought on the bus, and all will give change. In addition to the basic single fare, there are also lots of good value ways to reduce the cost:-

If you are making a return journey, a return ticket is the best value. As an example, Arriva or Network Harlow returns are £2.70, SM Coaches services all sell similar tickets. Again buy on the bus.

If you are taking more than one bus, an all day ticket is the best value. As an example, Arriva or Network Harlow day tickets are priced at £3.80.

On Sundays, when town services are supported by Essex County Council, a £2 ticket (£1 child) will allow travel on the local network all day.

The basic child fare for under 14's will be approximately £1.20 single, £1.80 return or £2.50 for a day ticket. If you are between 14 and 20, you can continue to obtain child fares with a student fare saver card. See student deals below for details.

Basic fares outside Harlow

The fare to a destination outside Harlow will vary depending on distance, however the vast majority of places can be reached for under £6. Again this can be reduced by purchasing a return. This cost of a return is typically calculated at one and a half times the single fare. The maximum return fare to anywhere is £8, but the majority are lower.

Child fares are generally half the adult for singles and returns, rounded up to the nearest 10p.

Special Deals - within Harlow

Special deals on Network Harlow buses only as follows.

Unlimited travel for a day within Harlow - £3.80, buy from the driver. Ideal if you have to catch more that one bus and make a return trip. Cheaper than two returns, or one single and one return, or three singles. Child equivalent £2.50. 

Unlimited travel for a week within Harlow - £10.00, buy from the driver. Ideal if you make one return journey at least 4 days per week. Brings the cost per journey down to £1 based on 5 days per week travel, Child equivalent £5.00. 

A four-weekly equivalent is available at £38.00 (adult) or £20.00 (child or concession with proof of status). A 12 weeks option is £100 and an annual ticket £330. Longer term tickets must be purchased from the bus garage on Fourth Avenue.

Special deals for Train travellers.
If you're arriving at Harlow Town Station, ask for a PLUSBUS when you buy your train ticket. It adds £2.50 (£1.25 child) to the price of your train fare, but allows local bus travel in Harlow for the day. Makes it easy to get to the Town Centre, Hospital, Industrial Areas or Superstores from anywhere with one ticket. Valid on many services in the area including Arriva/Network Harlow, and Essex County Council contracted services.

Special deals on
Sundays only as follows.

Unlimited travel for a Sunday within Harlow - £2, buy from the driver. Ideal if you have to catch more that one bus or make a return trip. Child or OAP equivalent £1. Ask for the one day Harlow Saver.

Special Deals - outside Harlow

The explorer is the best deal anywhere! £8 gets totally unlimited travel for one day on almost any bus in Herts and Arriva buses in Essex, Beds and Bucks. For £12 the same ticket can be used for up to four people. A child/concessionary explorer ticket can be purchased for one person at £4.00. This is the ideal ticket for a day out. Buy from the driver and ask for an Explorer.

Special deals on Arriva buses only

If you are making regular journeys, the Arriva weekly all-zones pass is available covering roughly the same area as above and costs £30.00 . A child or concession equivalent is available for the under 14's at £15.00, as is a 4-weekly at £75.00 (Adult) or £45.00 (Child).


Special deals on Centrebus buses only

A £10 weekly ticket provides unlimited travel on Lea Valley services. A monthly equivalent is available at £37. A student day ticket is available for £2

Two adult returns purchased together qualify for a 15% discount on the normal rate

Special deals available, but available for use on most operators services.

The Essex Saver gives unlimited travel for one weekday (Monday to Saturday) on most services in Essex, and is priced at £8 adult, £4 child and concessions senior citizen. 

The Essex Sunday Saver gives unlimited travel for one day on most services in Essex, and is priced at £2.80 adult, £1.50 child and concessions senior citizen or £5.50 for a family of 4 including maximum 2 adults.

London Commuter
The services run by Olympian Coaches charge as follows.

Student Deals

Students in full time education can purchase a faresaver ticket, giving child rate on Arriva or Network Harlow buses for a whole year. The cost of the fare saver ticket is £70 for students aged 16 or 17, or £110 for students aged 18 to 20. There is a £10 charge for 14 and 15 year olds.

To apply for a faresaver, pick up an application form from the travel office in the bus station and this gives full details. Essentially you'll need two passport sized photos, proof of age, and you'll need to get your college to stamp as proof of being in full time education. Return the completed form to the travel office.

Centrebus are offering a £2 all day ticket on their services through the Lea Valley. You'll need to show your NUS or college ID card to obtain this.
